Fungus Survey of Oxfordshire

Home Page

We are a diverse group of volunteers who are interested in identifying and recording the frequency and distribution of mushrooms, toadstools and other fungi that can be found throughout Oxfordshire. We do not allow general collection of fruiting bodies (we are not a foray group) and will only remove specimens from a site that cannot be identified in the field - we do not collect for any other purpose.

Each year we organise forays to the woodlands, grasslands and wetland parts of the county.

Newcomers are welcome to join us, to share in the excitement of finding fungi that are often overlooked and some not previously recorded. Beginners are encouraged, with help from the more experienced members, to learn how to identify fungi.

Our records are entered into the Fungal Records Database of Britain and Ireland (FRDBI), organized by the British Mycological Society. Where appropriate our records are also supplied to the Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC). Please note records from confidential sites are not shared at a level that can identify any specific sites.

Please explore our website where information on our fungal surveys can be found.

If you would like to join us, please go to our membership section.

This will be a dedicated survey of an area that the FSO has visited over several years but it is a private garden and woodland belonging to an FSO member with some sensitive spring planting. As a result we are needing to restrict numbers so this email is asking for you to email me with expressions of interest. Sorry, no children on this occasion.

Selection will be on a first come first served basis and via email only (Click here). I need to receive all emails by close Friday 25 March and I will email results next weekend, providing the meeting details at the same time.

Please do not attend if you have not had your attendance confirmed.

Our full programme of events for 2022 is coming soon.
